Japan has processed live cross-border payments on the XRP Ledger for years, and that it was real production, not a test. Is that true? XRP News Today checks the claim against an official SBI Group document, explains how the payments work in plain words, and looks at why the chart is still quiet.
According to live market data, the coin was trading near $1.31, up 1.14% over 24 hours, after a drop to about $1.26 overnight and a sharp bounce.
| Metric | Value |
| Price | $1.31 |
| 24h Change | +1.14% |
| Market Cap | $82.87B (+1.14%) |
| 24h Volume | $1.61B (+42.89%) |

The chart opened near $1.29 and rose slightly. Around 7 PM on the chart’s clock, it dropped sharply and spent hours near $1.27.
Around 1:30 AM it hit a low near $1.26, then bounced hard, reclaimed $1.29 by about 4 AM, and climbed to $1.31 by morning. That is about 4% above the overnight low.
Trading volume rose almost 43%, so the move came on busier trading. Readers following XRP news today should note that no official source ties this bounce to the Japan story below.
The post says Japan processed live payments through SBI Remit and a group of Japanese banks and that it was never a pilot.
The official SBI Group release from September 6, 2023, also published on the SBI Remit website, lets us test each part:
| Claim in the post | What the official document shows |
| Live payments for years | Yes. Remit has used Ripple’s payment system since 2017 and began using the coin as a bridge in 2021. |
| Not a pilot | The release announces a customer service going live that month in three countries. |
| Uses the XRP Ledger | The release credits the coin as the bridge and describes the ledger’s speed. |
| A group of Japanese banks | Not mentioned in the document |
| The U.S. is just earlier | Not covered in the document |
So the core of the claim holds up. The bank group and the U.S. comparison are not backed by this source.

According to the official release, several companies work together:
| Player | Role |
| SBI Remit | Takes the customer’s request and runs the money transfer service |
| SBI VC Trade | A crypto exchange that sends the coin in real time |
| Ripple | Provides the payment system and is an investee of SBI Holdings |
| SBI Ripple Asia | A joint venture between SBI Holdings and Ripple, set up in May 2016 |
| TRANGLO | A payments company that pays out to the receiver’s bank account abroad |
Think of the coin as a bridge between two currencies. In the 2023 setup, the official document describes this flow:
A customer in Japan deposits yen and asks to send money abroad.
Remit passes on the request, and the exchange sends the coin in real time.
TRANGLO pays out local money to the receiver’s bank account in the Philippines, Vietnam, or Indonesia.
The release explains the benefit. Using the coin as a bridge reduces the cost of pre-funding, which means keeping money parked in foreign accounts in advance.
It also notes that the ledger can handle 1,500 payments per second and finish a payment within 4 seconds.
Those three countries were chosen because they receive a large share of their remittances through bank accounts, which SBI expected to drive further adoption.
The release also says SBI plans to add more destinations, business payments and inbound transfers through partnerships with Ripple and other fintech firms.
Here is the honest picture. The release is about how money moves, not how much. It gives no volumes and says nothing about price.
Real use is good news for the story, but a chart depends on many other things. Anyone following XRP news today should treat any “Japan will lift the price” claim as a guess.
Here is what to watch next:
A newer official statement from SBI Group with updated transfer numbers.
New countries or business payments added to the service.
Whether the coin holds above this morning’s recovery near $1.29.
Whether trading volume stays busy.
Japan’s payment story is real and documented, with the coin as a bridge since 2021, but the bank-group and U.S. parts of the claim are not confirmed. Meanwhile, the coin sits quietly at $1.31 after a rough night.
The smartest approach is to follow the confirmed facts and ignore the hype. Keep checking XRP news today for the next update.
