Elon Musk Scales Back American Party Plans

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly shelved his plans to launch a new political organization, dubbed the ‘American Party.’ Instead, he is prioritizing his business ventures, including Tesla. According to recent reports, he has decided to focus on his companies and maintain ties with influential figures like Vice President JD Vance.

Is Elon Musk Putting the Brakes on the American Party?

According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Elon Musk is scaling back his American Party plans to prioritize his business and avoid alienating influential Republicans. The report claims that the tech mogul is considering using his vast financial resources to support US Vice President JD Vance in the 2028 presidential race.

Citing people familiar with the matter, the WSJ report revealed that Elon Musk’s decision was based on his potential political plans. He reportedly told his allies that if he were to continue with the creation of the new organization, it could pull in Republican voters, weakening that party’s election chances and alienating him from Vance, with whom he is said to have been in contact in the past few weeks.

Significantly, this decision to abandon the creation of the political group is likely to bring relief to Republicans. This is because the billionaire had initially threatened to disrupt their chances in key seats during the 2026 midterm elections. The tech mogul had considered targeting specific GOP lawmakers, potentially weakening the party's overall performance.

However, in response to the WSJ report, the tech leader shared an X post, sparking questions about the authenticity of the news. His post read, “Nothing WSJ says should ever be thought of as true.”

Rise of the American Party

Interestingly, plans to create the American Party stemmed from the SpaceX founder's disagreement with President Donald Trump over the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” According to the business giant, the bill could increase the US national debt by $3.3 trillion over the next decade. As the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, he aimed to reduce government spending and lower the national debt, making the bill a direct contradiction to his efforts.

These conflicting perspectives have sparked a heated debate and feud between the two. While the Elon Musk announced the potential launch of the political group, Trump criticized him, saying that he has gone “off the rails.”
