The city of Ogbomoso witnessed a historic moment on November 7th and 8th, as Confluence 2025, organized by Blockchain LAUTECH, brought together over 1,000 students, developers, industry leaders, and tech enthusiasts for a groundbreaking two-track conference - a Developer Track and a Community Track - focused on blockchain, digital transformation, and real-world use cases for Africa.
Held at the heart of Ogbomoso’s growing tech ecosystem, Confluence 2025 proved that innovation can thrive beyond major metropolitan hubs. The event attracted representatives from leading blockchain ecosystems including CELO, Arbitrum, and Qubic, alongside founders, developers, creators, and partner organizations within Nigeria’s expanding Web3 landscape, with the headline sponsor being Faucet Drops; an automated onchain engagement and reward distribution platform powering protocols and communities in Web3.
The conference theme, “Ogbomoso’s Digital Transformation: Blockchain as a Catalyst,” reflected the emerging shift across the city - one driven by its massive youth population, strong academic institutions, and rising interest in digital innovation
From keynote addresses to developer workshops, panel conversations, community discussions, and product showcases, Confluence offered participants a rich blend of insight, inspiration, and practical exposure.
1. A Powerful Convener’s Keynote
The event opened with an inspiring keynote from John ADEKUNJO, Convener of Confluence and Co-founder of Blockchain LAUTECH
He emphasized Ogbomoso’s hidden potential:
“People underestimate Ogbomoso, but we’ve always known the talent here is real. Confluence is proof that you can build world-class things from a small city if you create the right community and the right environment.”
2. Developer Track - Deep Dives & Workshops
Developers explored:
● Building scalable apps on CELO
● Onboarding pathways for student developers
● Real-world blockchain use cases in Africa
● Developer career guidance, regulatory frameworks & portfolio-building
The session helped new and experienced developers understand where the opportunities are, and how to tap into them.
3. Community Track - Growth, Use Cases & Women in Tech
Participants engaged with:
● Real-world blockchain use cases in Africa
● Community pathways in Web3
● A compelling Women in Tech & Web3 panel
● Inspiring stories from ecosystem leaders
● Breaking into tech
● A live Q&A on local innovation and adoption barriers
4. Inter-school Oratory Competition
We brought young minds into the Web3 conversation through our Inter-School Oratory Competition - a bold, insightful debate on whether blockchain regulations are accelerating or slowing adoption in Nigeria.
These brilliant secondary school students delivered powerful arguments, showcasing curiosity, confidence, and a strong grasp of an unconventional tech topic. It was inspiring to see the next generation engage with conversations shaping the future of innovation.
Special appreciation to our panel of judges for their expert assessments, and to our Platinum Sponsor Faucetdrops for rewarding the winning schools.
5. “Dare to Dream” Pitch Session
A major highlight of the event was the Dare to Dream segment, where 15 randomly selected attendees pitched their tech dreams in 40 seconds. Several standout business owners received fully functional websites powered by BeaconLabs.
The Top 3 winners were awarded full scholarships to study at SQI ICT College, and the overall winner also went home with a brand-new laptop to kickstart their journey.
To crown it all, three attendees became new landowners, courtesy of LandRite Africa, each receiving a plot of land through a special raffle draw.
The emotional reactions and raw excitement captured exactly what the event stood for; unlocking potential.
6. Ecosystem Support & Partnerships
Confluence secured strong backing from:
● Faucet Drops
● SQI College of ICT (offering scholarships & discounts)
● LandRite Africa
● CELO AfricaDAO
● Qubic Nigerian Community
● Beacon Labs
This signaled strong confidence in Ogbomoso’s emerging tech ecosystem.
In Our Interview With John ADEKUNJO…
Speaking with our press team, Convener John ADEKUNJO shared deeper reflections on Confluence and the vision ahead:
“This wasn’t just an event,it was a statement. A city like Ogbomoso deserves to be part of Nigeria’s digital future, not just watch it from afar. We created Confluence to prove that innovation can start anywhere, not just in Lagos.”
“Seeing almost 1,000 young people show up hungry to learn and build… that was the moment I knew something historic had happened here. The energy, the curiosity, the conversations, it felt like a spark.”
“This is the beginning. Our goal is to build a long-term ecosystem: developer pipelines, accelerator programs, partnerships, hackathons, and opportunities that keep young talents here in Ogbomoso. Confluence is now an annual movement.”
“We’re obsessed with creating pathways - especially for students. Whether it’s learning to code, joining a Web3 project, getting mentorship, or building a startup, we want to make it possible from Ogbomoso.”
If Confluence 2025 proved anything, it’s that the future is not limited by geography. With the right vision, the right community, and continuous support, Ogbomoso is positioning itself as a rising tech hub in Nigeria, and Blockchain LAUTECH is right at the center of that transformation.
As attendees left the venue inspired, empowered, and ready to build, one thing became clear:
It was the beginning of a new digital chapter for Ogbomoso.
