The U.S. midterm elections are set for November 3, 2026. Crypto traders are already digging through old charts. Some see a dip first. Others see a big rally later.
The data is mixed, and it depends on who you ask. Here is what the numbers show for Bitcoin and XRP.
Crypto Patel tracked Bitcoin for 12 months after each vote. The price rose every time.
After the 2014 vote, BTC gained 24.5%. After 2018, it gained 44.9%. After 2022, the gain was 92.3%.
The chart in that post puts BTC near $85,700 at the time of writing.
That is a small sample of three. The post itself says history does not guarantee future returns.
Ali Charts shows a harsher picture. BTC fell 72%, 65%, 52%, and 27% after the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 votes.
The drops got smaller each time. The latest one was far milder than the first.
The same post says this does not prove elections caused the drops. It is only a pattern to watch.
Q4 is the stretch right around the vote. Ali Charts shared those numbers too.
BTC price jumped 391% in Q4 2010. But it lost 16.70% in Q4 2014, 42.16% in Q4 2018, and 14.75% in Q4 2022.
Since 2014, all three Q4 results were negative. The post says investors should be ready for volatility as Q4 begins.
Midterm Year | BTC 12-Month Return After Vote (Crypto Patel) | BTC Fall After Vote (Ali Charts) | BTC Q4 Return (Ali Charts) |
2010 | N/A | -72% | +391% |
2014 | +24.5% | -65% | -16.70% |
2018 | +44.9% | -52% | -42.16% |
2022 | +92.3% | -27% | -14.75% |

The posts do not explain how each figure was measured. A 12-month return and a drop at some point in the year are not the same thing.
BTC can fall hard early and still end the year higher. Both stories can be true at once.
One analysis describes a "fall first, then rise" pattern. It says policy uncertainty and selling pressure hit before the vote. Money then returns once the results are clear.
The same analysis notes that spot ETFs and bigger institutions may make wild swings less likely this time.
As per Egrag Crypto, XRP's Q4 record is wild. It rose 423.1% in 2014. It then fell 39.4% in 2018 and 29.3% in 2022.
The next two quarters matter more. One analyst on X found XRP averaged -6.8% in Q1 and +20.1% in Q2 after the votes. Together, that comes to about 0%.
BTC did far better in the same window.
Period After Midterms | XRP Average | BTC Average |
Q1 | -6.8% | +19.7% |
Q2 | +20.1% | +59.7% |
Q1 + Q2 (compounded) | About 0% | +86.5% |
The analyst wonders if BTC leads the recovery first. Money could then rotate into XRP and other altcoins.
That is one scenario, not a rule. In this data, XRP's results were more mixed than Bitcoin's.
The analyst also warns there are only three cycles. Price action must confirm any move.
Ali Charts points to Bitcoin's short-term holder cost basis, near $73,000. That is roughly what recent buyers paid on average.
Support is a price area where buyers have stepped in before. In past bull markets, this level often held during big pullbacks.
BTC traded at $84,276 on the chart from September 29. A move to $73,000 would be a drop of about 13%.
No one can call the price. But the data gives a few paths to watch after November 3.
Scenario | What It Looks Like | Level or Data Point |
Dip, then recovery | BTC slips after the vote, finds buyers near the cost basis, then climbs | Near $73,000; past 12-month gains of 24.5% to 92.3% |
Support breaks | BTC falls below the cost basis and stays there | Below $73,000 |
Choppy range | Price drifts with no clear trend | Around $84,276 |
XRP lags BTC | XRP trails Bitcoin early in 2027, as in past cycles | Q1 average -6.8%, Q2 average +20.1% |
For scale, a 24.5% gain from $84,276 would be about $104,900. That is only math, not a forecast.
One post lays out a plan. Watch for weakness after November 3, then look to buy near $73,000.
That is one trader's view, not advice. A dip may stop short of that level. It could also cut right through it.
Three cycles is not much data. Crypto also reacts to interest rates, ETF flows, news, and global events.
Bitcoin was a tiny market in 2010. Today it has ETFs and large funds. Old numbers may not fit the new market.
Seasonality is not destiny, as the XRP analyst put it. Price action has to confirm a pattern before it matters.
