Solana has pulled back into a zone traders are calling the key make-or-break area of this cycle. After a huge run from the mid-$50s toward an all-time high near $270, SOL has spent the past several months carving out a base, and the next big swing may hinge on a single number: $73.
SOL slipped slightly to start the week, giving back part of a roughly 1.55% bounce from the day before. Momentum looks like it's cooling off, even after the recent recovery.
On July 25, analyst Crypto Patel flagged this zone to followers on X, describing SOL as sitting inside a demand area where several signals line up at once.
Three separate technical clues point to the same spot. There's an old breakout base, a price where SOL once launched a prior rally.
There's a longer-term weekly support level. And there's the 0.618 Fibonacci retracement, a tool traders use to guess where pullbacks might stall.
When several signals stack up in one place, chart watchers call it a confluence zone. That doesn't guarantee anything, but it explains why so much attention is on this one price right now.
Patel laid out three simple paths forward:
Scenario | Price Level | What It Could Mean |
Hold | $73 | Buyers stay firmly in control |
Break down | Below $73 | Opens the door to the $68-$64 zone |
Reclaim | $77 | Adds weight to the bullish case |
A clean break under $73 would not necessarily end the broader uptrend, but it would tilt the near-term bias lower, at least until buyers step back in closer to $68 to $64.
Data from CoinGlass points to a mixed setup. Trading volume climbed 53.38% over the past day to $4.55 billion, a sign that more traders are active right now.
Open interest, the total value of futures contracts still open, slipped 2.48% to $4.76 billion. That drop suggests some traders are closing out positions instead of opening fresh ones, even with volume rising.
Options markets tell a busier story. Options volume jumped 201.42% to $14.12 million, while options open interest rose 10.23% to $101.16 million. More traders appear to be using options to hedge or speculate on where the price heads next.
Metric | Value | 24H Change |
Trading Volume | $4.55B | +53.38% |
Open Interest | $4.76B | -2.48% |
Options Volume | $14.12M | +201.42% |
Options Open Interest | $101.16M | +10.23% |
Long/Short Ratio (24h) | 0.99 | Roughly even |
Positioning still leans toward longs. On Binance, the long-to-short ratio for retail accounts sits near 2.51, and OKX shows a similar 2.55 ratio. Even larger Binance traders are net long, with a ratio of 2.82 by account count.
A crowd this lopsided cuts both ways. It can fuel a rally if buyers keep control, but a break lower could spark a wave of forced selling, since so many positions sit on the same side of the trade.
Funding rates back this up too. The rate recently ticked higher, a sign fresh buyers are willing to pay a small premium to stay long.
Liquidation data lines up with the recent bounce. Over the past 24 hours, short sellers lost about $6.25 million to liquidations, compared with roughly $1.10 million for longs, pointing to a squeeze higher.
But in just the last hour, that flipped, with longs losing about $61.78 thousand against barely any short losses, a hint the bounce may be losing steam.
Demand from bigger players hasn't dried up, but it has cooled. SoSoValue data shows Solana funds pulled in $7.20 million last week, pushing the June total to $11.80 million.
That marks a fourth straight week of inflows. Still, it's a fraction of the $20 million-plus weekly hauls these funds saw earlier this year.
Nothing about this setup is guaranteed. If SOL holds $73, the bullish structure many traders are watching stays alive, and a move back above $77 would likely add weight to the case for continuation.
If sellers take over and $73 gives way, the path of least resistance points toward the $68 to $64 zone, an area with its own history of drawing buyers back in.
For now, Solana sits right in the middle of that tug of war, with volume rising, open interest easing, and options traders piling in from both sides. The next few sessions could say more about where SOL heads next than the past several months of sideways trading combined.
