SpaceX launches SES O3b mPOWER mission from Cape Canaveral
SpaceX just marked its 700th Falcon rocket launch. The mission carried three satellites for longtime customer SES, but it is SpaceX's stock price that is now grabbing investor attention.
The Falcon 9 flew Sunday from Cape Canaveral, carrying the final three satellites, named F11, F12, and F13, for the O3b mPOWER constellation. The milestone puts SpaceX at 687 Falcon 9 flights and 13 Falcon Heavy flights to date.
Away from the launch pad, SpaceX stock price is stuck in a tight range this week. Three big events could decide where SPCX goes next.
The stock closed at $151.21 on Thursday, up 2.04% on the day. It has been trading between $145 and $155 for the past ten sessions.
SPCX stock price closed the last session at $151.21, a gain of $3.03 from the prior close of $148.18.
The day's range ran from $145.92 to $151.85. Trading volume came in at over 79 million shares, close to the average volume of 102 million.
Market cap stands near $1.993 trillion. The stock's 52-week range spans from $104.83 to $225.64, showing how wide the swings have been over the past year.
Wall Street's one-year target sits at $220.68, well above current levels.
The four-hour chart shows SpaceX stock price struggling at the $152 mark. This is the same zone where sellers have stepped in twice already.
The stock remains above the middle Bollinger band support at $146. As long as it holds this level, the setup stays bullish.
The RSI reading of 58 suggests momentum is still on the upside, but it is not extreme in either direction.
A trader known as Mike on X described the SpaceX stock chart as "constructive" but noted the price keeps getting rejected below $155. If SPCX closes above $155, the next stop could be $170.
The Federal Open Market Committee meets on September 15 and 16, right after the latest US CPI print.
Data from the FedWatch Tool shows an 86.5% chance the Fed moves its target rate from the current 350–375 basis point range up to 375–400 basis points, a 25 basis point hike. Only 13.5% of odds point to no change at 350–375.
A rate hike could pressure growth stocks like SpaceX if markets have not already priced it in. The Bank of Japan is also expected to raise rates this week, which may strengthen the yen and add pressure on richly valued US shares tied to the yen carry trade.
SpaceX plans to launch Starship Test Flight 14 on September 18 from Starbase in Texas. The mission will deploy 20 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites.
Pivotal Research has pointed to a $220 price target for SpaceX stock if Starlink keeps grabbing share in the $1.7 trillion wireless market.
A successful launch could support SpaceX stock price. A delay or technical issue could send the stock back below $145.
Separately, Nasdaq will rebalance its index at the end of September. Reports suggest SpaceX could receive a larger index weighting, which may trigger billions of dollars in passive fund buying.
One analyst on X argued that most gains from this rebalancing may already show up before the actual event, as traders front-run the announcement.
Scenario | Key Level | Possible Target |
Bullish breakout | Close above $155 | $165 to $170 |
Range-bound | Between $146 and $152 | Stays near $148 to $151 |
Bearish breakdown | Below $145 | $133 (23.6% Fib level) |
Views on SpaceX stock price are mixed. One analyst pointed to the company's CFO forecast of $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by year-end as a reason SPCX could push above $148.
Analyst Marcos Milla offered a wider long-term range, suggesting the stock could fall to $117 over the next 12 months, or climb as high as $450 in a bullish case.
This week's mix of Fed policy, a rocket launch, and index flows makes near-term SpaceX stock price prediction harder than usual. Traders will likely watch the $145 and $155 levels closely for direction.
For now, the biggest SPCX news to watch stays the FOMC outcome on September 16, and the Starship launch two days later. Both could set the tone for SpaceX stock price into October.
