The Digital Euro vs. Stablecoins: The Future of Money at MERGE Madrid

Future of Money at MERGE Madrid

Future of Money at MERGE Madrid 2025 Debate

  • A showdown between Europe’s and Latin America’s central banks against crypto platforms such as Ripple, Kraken, and Bit2Me will take place at MERGE Madrid (October 7–9).

  • Over 200 experts from many countries will meet in Madrid to talk about the future of money.

  • They will discuss how big companies use crypto, how new rules shape it, and how people use it every day.

  • Madrid is now a top place for banks, startups, and tech firms that work with Web3 ideas.

Madrid, September 18, 2025 — In 2025, people are asking what money will look like in the future. Will it be a digital euro from the European Central Bank? Will it be stablecoins made by tech companies? Or will it be Bitcoin and other coins that change old systems?

These topics will lead the talks at Future of Money at MERGE Madrid, from October 7 to 9, turning Madrid into a meeting point between Europe and Latin America.

Banks, companies, and crypto leaders will all share what they think about the future of money.

Regulators and banks versus digital innovation

Groups like the European Banking Authority (EBA), Spain’s CNMV, Argentina’s CNV, Brazil’s CVM, and Chile’s CMF will join the event. The Bank of Spain and the Central Bank of Chile will also attend.

They will talk about the new risks and rewards that come with digital money. They will also focus on how to keep people’s money safe.

Big banks like Santander, BBVA, JP Morgan, and Citi will join crypto firms like Binance, Bit2Me, Ripple, and Kraken. Banks want to add crypto in safe ways. Fintechs are moving fast to build open and global systems.

Speakers from Amazon, Microsoft, and the London Stock Exchange Group will also be there, like Damu Winston (Amazon) and Jaime de Mora (Microsoft).

Madrid, a bridge between Europe and Latin America

Latin American banks and leaders make the talks richer. Brazil, Argentina, and Chile are testing new rules and tech. What they learn could help Europe, or show how countries are different.

MERGE Madrid helps connect Europe and Latin America. It brings banks, companies, and governments together to share ideas about Web3 and digital money. This year, guests include the Central Bank of Chile, Argentina’s CNV, Chile’s CMF, and the European Banking Authority, along with the Bank of Spain and CNMV.

It happens during Hispanic Heritage Week, making Madrid a special city for culture, connection, and the digital world.

Over 200 international experts

More than 200 speakers will share ideas in three main areas.

  • From banks: Coty de Monteverde (Santander), Francisco Maroto (BBVA), David Cunningham (Citi), Kirsten Jones (J.P. Morgan Chase), Gabriel Campa (TowerBank), and Pablo Arboleda Niño (Bancolombia).

  • From Web3: Javier García de la Torre (Binance), Eric Piscini (Hashgraph), Cassie Craddock (Ripple), Robby Yung (Animoca Brands), and Charles d’Haussy (dYdX Foundation).

  • From business and tech: Damu Winston (Amazon), Esteban Sadurni (Checkout.com), Victor Yung (Hamilton Lane), Michael Higgins (Hidden Road), Dotun Rominiyi (LSE Group), and Jaime de Mora (Microsoft).

Main panels will cover big topics such as:
  • Global regulators and crypto: different ideas, same goals.

  • “MiCA Meets Traditional Finance: The Future Starts Today.”

  • “What Will Payments Look Like in Ten Years?”

  • “Governments, Banks and Blockchain: Building Trust in the Digital Economy.”
