Ethereum is under pressure on October 13, 2026. The price stands at $2,514.20, down 1.9%, with a market cap near $306.9 billion. It fell harder than Bitcoin, which points to weaker relative strength on the day.
Five stories explain the mood: Binance’s grip on futures, BitMine’s nearly finished buying plan, a bridge attack payout at Payy, a whale’s swap from Bitcoin, and a trader who gave back millions. This Ethereum news roundup covers each one in plain terms.
At a Glance
ETH price: $2,514.20, down 1.9% on October 13, 2026, with a market cap near $306.9 billion.
Binance futures: Nearly 49% of open interest, the highest share since 2023, at about 2.46 million ETH.
Liquidations: $345 million in long positions wiped out between October 8 and 9.
BitMine: Holds 6,028,946 ETH (about 4.94% of supply), just 77,442 short of its 5% target.
Payy: 30-day USDC claim window is open. The form asks for a mnemonic phrase, so treat it with extreme caution.
Whale move: 837.8 BTC swapped for 27,500 ETH at an average price near $2,534.
Trader risk: A $12.3 million profit shrank to about $290,000, with liquidation near $2,393.
CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reported on October 12 that Binance now holds close to 49% of futures open interest among major centralized exchanges. That is the highest share since 2023. Since late September, the price has slid from $2,775 to $2,500, a drop of nearly 10%.
Binance’s open interest measured in dollars fell by $600 million over that time. Measured in coins, though, it rebounded to about 2.46 million ETH, the late September level.
Dollar figures shrink when price falls, even if traders hold the same number of coins. Between October 8 and 9, $345 million in long positions were liquidated within 24 hours. Traders have not left. Leveraged exposure remains high, even with Binance’s MiCA license troubles.

BitMine bought 12,532 ETH last week. Its total now stands at 6,028,946 ETH. That equals about 4.94% of the 122.1 million supply and roughly 99% of its 5% goal. Only 77,442 remain.
As of October 11, 5,067,309 tokens were staked. Management says the company has essentially completed its purchases, so buying may slow soon. EmberCN put last week’s average price near $2,601 per coin. BitMine’s average cost is $3,334, which leaves an unrealized loss of about 23.8%.

Payy, a privacy stablecoin payment app, opened a claims process on October 13 after the September 24 attack on its bridge contract. Eligible users will receive USDC on the Ethereum network. The claim window lasts 30 days, which points to a deadline around mid-November. Check Payy’s official post for the exact date.
Payy Wallet is suspended and will shut down for good once the window closes. Payy says its privacy design stops it from checking balances directly. The form therefore asks for a wallet mnemonic phrase. Be very careful here.
A recovery phrase can give full control of a wallet. Reach the form only through Payy’s official post, move any other funds first if you can, and never share the phrase anywhere else. A request from an official account is not proof that the process is safe.

EmberCN reported that one whale or institution sold 837.8 BTC and bought 27,500 coins, worth about $69.68 million. The average price was $2,534. The route ran through Hyperliquid, where BTC became USDC.
The USDC moved to Arbitrum, was bridged to the main network, and then bought the coin. The BTC had been withdrawn from HTX about a year and a half ago. This is one wallet group, so it does not prove a wider shift from Bitcoin to Ethereum.

EmberCN says trader Maji turned $150,000 into $12.3 million in August. He rolled a long position from $1,900 as ETH coin rose to $2,500. Over the last 20 days, the price slid from $2,800 to $2,400. Repeated stop-losses cut his account to about $290,000.
He still holds a 3,500 ETH long. If the Ethereum price falls to about $2,393, the remaining balance could be wiped out. These figures come from on-chain monitoring and are not independently verified. The story shows how fast leverage can erase gains.

Four signals deserve attention.
Futures exposure: Does Binance’s open interest stay near 2.46 million ETH or fall?
BitMine: Tom Lee said at TOKEN2049 in Singapore that buying stops at 5%. EmberCN expects that in about a month.
Payy: Will it clarify the recovery phrase step?
Ethereum versus Bitcoin: Does it steady after today’s weaker showing?
None of these guarantees where price goes next.
Traders still hold large futures bets. BitMine is almost done buying. One whale added the coin on the dip. Payy users need extra caution with any recovery phrase request.
Ethereum news shows the path depends on price action, derivatives, liquidity, and wider markets, not one transaction or announcement. This story reveals both demand and risk.
