If Trump Loses the House, Will Bitcoin and Stocks Crash or Rally?

What happens to Bitcoin if Trump loses the House on November 3? Voters pick Congress, not the president, so Trump stays in the White House either way.

The real question is how a Democratic House could change crypto rules, probes, and market mood. Bitcoin trades near $77,850, and BTC fell after each of the last four midterms.

Bitcoin Holds Near $77,850 After Binance Hack Shock

Bitcoin is down 0.04% on Monday at $77,850. Last week was rough.

BTC fell to a six-week low of $76,368 on October 30. A $6.3 billion hack at Binance, the largest crypto theft on record, hit the market. About $3 billion of the stolen funds was frozen.

The FBI blamed North Korea for the breach. Reuters reports Binance customers have pulled $3.64 billion, about 2.1% of its assets, since withdrawals resumed. The FBI blamed North Korea for the breach

Bitcoin lost 7.32% in October, ending three straight monthly gains. Spot Bitcoin ETFs also shed $643 million after the hack.

Stocks added stress. Alphabet fell more than 12% on October 29, wiping out roughly $500 billion in value. The Nasdaq then closed its worst month in more than a year as AI spending worries hit tech.

What Happens If Trump Loses Congress? Midterm Day Puts Bitcoin on Alert

On November 3, voters will decide who controls Congress. Democrats are widely expected to win the House. The Senate is less certain.

Morgan Stanley expects Democrats to regain the House and calls the Senate a toss-up with a slight Democratic edge. Polymarket prices a Democratic sweep of Congress at 72%.

If Republicans keep Congress, the outlook is bullish for Bitcoin and positive for stocks. Trump would have more room to push crypto laws and fiscal plans.

If Trump loses one chamber, passing his plans gets harder. Losing both would give Democrats more leverage. Crypto-linked stocks could face selling if traders price in slower regulation.

But Trump would stay president. He keeps his veto and executive powers. A defeat in Congress would not erase policies already in place.

Bitcoin Fell After All Four Recent Midterms

Crypto analyst Ali Charts shared the numbers on X on September 29. BTC dropped after the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 elections.

Midterm Year

BTC Drop After the Election

BTC Q4 Result

2010

-72%

+391%

2014

-65%

-16.70%

2018

-52%

-42.16%

2022

-27%

-14.75%

The drops have shrunk each time, from 72% down to 27%. That is worth noting.

The analyst also said the data does not prove elections caused the decline. Bitcoin's market was tiny in 2010, so the early numbers are not a clean match either.

Timing matters too. Bitcoin's cycle lows came 71, 39, and 13 days after the 2014, 2018, and 2022 midterms. If that repeats, the next low could land between mid-November 2026 and January 2027.

Q4 has been rough as well. Bitcoin lost ground in Q4 2014, 2018, and 2022.Bitcoin Fell After All Four Recent Midterms

$73,000 Is the Dip Level Traders Are Watching

The daily chart in the posts showed BTC at $84,276. The short-term holder cost basis sat near $73,000. That is roughly the average price paid by recent buyers.

Bitcoin has since slid. From $77,850, a move to $73,000 would be a drop of about 6%. Another analyst, Ali Martinez, also named $73,000 as his key downside level.

During confirmed bull markets, this level has often held through major corrections. If BTC pulls back after the midterms, it could become a buying zone. A clean break below it would put the bull case in doubt.

One more date matters. MSCI announces which companies are affected by its new index rules on November 11. Strategy Inc. is one name in focus.

Exclusion would not force Strategy to sell its Bitcoin. But JPMorgan estimated it could trigger up to $2.8 billion in sales of Strategy shares.

Bull Case: Gridlock Could Spark a Bitcoin Rebound

History leans friendly for stocks. Morgan Stanley says the S&P 500 has gained about 13% on average in the 12 months after midterms.

If Trump loses the House but Republicans hold the Senate, the result is a split Congress. Under a Republican president, the S&P 500 has gained about 23% in the next year in that setup. The average across all outcomes is 12%.

Binance Research says Bitcoin averaged about 54% gains in the year after midterms. That covers only three cycles, so treat it lightly.

Bear Case: Probes and Rate Pressure Could Hit Crypto

If Trump loses a chamber, Democrats could push investigations into the Trump family's crypto ventures. Senate Democrats have already asked for hearings after disclosures showed the family's crypto ventures earned about $1.4 billion.

A crypto market structure bill is stuck in the Senate. Democrats want an ethics rule on the Trump family's crypto holdings.

Rates are another worry. The Fed held rates in a hawkish tone on October 28. The 10-year Treasury yield sat near 5% in late October.

Oil adds pressure. Brent crude neared $112 on October 20 during the Iran war, though it dropped sharply on Monday.

Could a Loss Trigger a Crash?

One analyst says a defeat alone is not enough to call for a crash. The real danger is an election surprise hitting a heavily leveraged market.

That can start with initial selling, then liquidations, then a self-reinforcing decline. Over $1.5 billion in mostly long positions were liquidated last week.

If Trump loses power and the market has already priced it in, the impact could be smaller. A rebound could even follow.

Stocks would not all move the same way. Companies that benefit most from Trump's agenda could take the biggest hit.

Rates, Debt and the Dollar Add Pressure

Congress does not set interest rates. But its choices shape the economy the Federal Reserve faces. The Fed's policy rate range sits at 3.75% to 4%.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the US deficit at around $2 trillion in fiscal 2026. More borrowing could push Treasury yields higher. Higher yields can pull capital toward American assets.

The dollar made up 56.7% of global foreign-exchange reserves in the second quarter of 2026. Any move in yields or the dollar can spill into risk assets like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Outlook: Choppy Swings Likely Around Election Night

Nobody knows how the vote or the market reaction will play out. These are the setups traders may track.

Scenario

What May Happen

Level to Watch

Republicans keep Congress

More room for crypto laws and fiscal plans. Bullish tone for BTC and stocks.

$80,200, then $82,000 to $84,000

Democrats win the House, selling fades fast

Quick dip, then a possible rebound once uncertainty clears.

$77,700 to $76,368

Democrats sweep, selling continues

Persistent selling and ETF outflows. Outlook needs a rethink.

$73,000 and below

A calm result could let Bitcoin test $80,200 again. More selling could send it back toward $76,368.

Rates, tech earnings and ETF flows may matter as much as who runs Congress. Whether Trump loses the House or not, price action after the vote may say more than any old chart.

What Traders Should Watch Next

One analyst still bets Republicans keep Congress and that their support helps crypto. If that fails, the focus turns to how buyers react.

A sell-off absorbed quickly would signal strength. Persistent selling and ETF outflows would call for a fresh look at the outlook.

The plan in the data is simple: watch for weakness after November 3, then look at the dip near $73,000. Whether to buy it or sit out is a personal call.
