SEC Crypto Rules Delayed: What It Means for XRP, Bitcoin, and Ethereum

SEC Crypto Rules Delayed: What It Means for XRP, Bitcoin, and Ethereum

Regulators hit pause again. On August 13, 2026, crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reported that the SEC pushed back its tokenization exemption once more.

No new details have gone public yet. The SEC crypto rules delay news comes right as Congress works through a sensitive part of a much bigger bill.

That bill is the CLARITY Act, and the SEC does not want to step on it. SEC pushed back its tokenization exemption once more

Why Are SEC Crypto Rules Delayed Right Now?

The center of this holdup is Section 10505 of the CLARITY Act. It deals with tokenized securities, digital versions of stocks and bonds built on blockchain rails.

The goal behind it is simple. A tokenized share should follow the same rulebook as the paper version it represents.

Getting there has taken months of talks among lawmakers, the White House, Wall Street groups like SIFMA, and crypto firms. Everyone has a stake in how this lands.

If the SEC rolled out its own exemption right now, it could knock that delicate agreement off balance. That risk is a big part of why SEC crypto rules delayed headlines keep showing up.

What Did the SEC Vote On Instead?

The agency didn't skip its August 14 meeting. It just kept tokenization off the agenda.

Commissioners voted on something called Regulation Crypto Assets, a narrower rule built for specific crypto investment contracts. Tokenization stayed on the sidelines.

This isn't the first stall of the year either. Past delays came down to a mix of unresolved questions.

Regulators have weighed third-party tokens, shareholder voting rights, dividend payments, and the risk of splitting liquidity across too many platforms.

SEC Chair Paul Atkins and Commissioner Hester Peirce keep describing the exemption the same way. They call it small and temporary, a tool built to test on-chain stock trading before anyone locks in permanent rules.

When Is the Next CLARITY Act Vote?

Mark September 15, 2026. That's when the Senate holds a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act.

Majority Leader John Thune locked in that date after the bill sat idle through the August recess. The White House says it remains fully behind getting this passed in September.

A few fights remain unsettled, though. Stablecoin yield rules are still a sore spot between the two sides.

Banks aren't waiting for Washington to sort this out. Wells Fargo is moving ahead with 24/7 tokenized deposits.

Ondo's Oasis Pro Markets just picked up FINRA approval to offer tokenized stocks and ETFs. The CFTC has its own advisory committee digging into crypto clarity questions at the same time.

Bitcoin Price Prediction: What Are the Next Targets?

Bitcoin is coiled up in a tight range, and the next breakout could go either way.

A close above $66,500 would strengthen the chart and put $68,700 back on the radar. Push through $68,700 on real volume, and higher levels start to look possible.

The other side matters too. Slipping under $63,000 brings $61,000 into play as the first real test.

Fall through $60,500 after that, and $58,500 becomes the next area to watch.

For now, price is squeezed tight. Whichever direction it breaks first is likely to set the tone more than the small moves happening day to day.

Why Does the $1,600 to $1,900 Zone Matter for Ethereum?

Ethereum traders keep circling back to one zone: $1,600 to $1,900. Buyers have defended this range multiple times over the past few years.

ETH is sitting inside it again, trading near $1,884.

Hold this floor, and $2,000 to $2,200 becomes the first resistance to clear. Get past that, and a triangle pattern on the chart points toward $2,500, then $3,000.

Further out, $3,500 to $4,100 opens up if buying pressure keeps stacking.

It's not a clean bullish story, though. RSI sits below 50, and headlines around corporate treasury holders of ETH have been mixed lately.

Most eyes will stay on $2,000 in the weeks ahead.

Will XRP Hold the $1 Support Level?

XRP's daily chart shows a descending triangle. Each rally is falling short of the last one against support sitting near $1.00.

Momentum backs that weakness up. RSI reads around 35.50, soft but not deeply oversold yet.

$1 is the number that decides what happens next. A firm break below it opens a path toward $0.50, roughly half of where XRP trades today.

Climbing back above $1.15 would flip the script and ease the selling pressure.

Until one of those lines gives way, XRP stays stuck between patient whale buying and quiet retail interest.

What This Means Going Forward

The SEC crypto rules delayed story is not finished yet. A cloture vote is not a signed law, and a paused exemption is not a final rule.

Institutions aren't sitting on their hands while Washington sorts this out. But real gaps in the rules stay open until Congress or the SEC actually finishes the job.

Until then, anyone watching this space is tracking two charts at once. One in Washington, and one on the trading screen.
