SpaceX Stock (NASDAQ: SPCX) closed at $154.72 on Tuesday, up 1.89% for the day. The SpaceX share price traded as high as $154.94 and touched a low of $150.55. Trading volume came in at 57.9 million shares, well below the average of 94.5 million.
The move came right after SpaceX's weighting in the Nasdaq-100 more than doubled during the index's quarterly rebalance. That single event is now shaping how traders read the Space X stock price heading into next week.

SpaceX stock dropped more than 54% from its June IPO peak. Heavy spending made some investors nervous. A large lock-up expiration added even more selling pressure.
Since bottoming near $104.83 in August, the stock has climbed back about 47%. Strong buying from large funds helped steady the price. Progress on Starlink and Starship also brought buyers back in.
A few spcx news stories are driving the stock price action right now:
Nasdaq-100 rebalance: SpaceX's index weight more than doubled to 2.82%, which could push billions of dollars of passive buying into the stock through QQQ and QQQM funds.
AI momentum: Grok Bot reportedly passed 400,000 users in its first month. Some analysts think SpaceX's AI unit could become its largest business by 2030.
Merger talk: Analyst Dan Ives puts an 80% chance on a Tesla-SpaceX combination by late 2027. Morgan Stanley has pointed to growing technology links between the two companies.
Starship catalyst: SpaceX is targeting September 28 for Starship Flight 14, which would deploy Starlink V3 satellites.
Falcon 9 wind-down: SpaceX is shifting resources away from Falcon 9 toward Starship, which could tighten launch supply and support pricing.
Share unlock: Up to 328.4 million shares may become eligible for sale on September 24, adding fresh supply to the market.
Valuation concerns: A roughly 10.9% monthly gain has drawn attention to SpaceX's high valuation and negative free cash flow.
Unlike most IPOs, SpaceX did not use a single lock-up date. Instead, the SpaceX stock unlock happens in stages, across nearly a dozen dates through the rest of 2026.
Date | Shares Released | Cumulative Float | % of Shares |
31 Aug | IPO + Aug tranches | 1.87bn | 13.8% |
9-10 Sep | 378.1m | 2.25bn | 16.6% |
24 Sep | 328.4m | 2.58bn | 19.0% |
9 Oct | 328.4m | 2.90bn | 21.4% |
24 Oct | 328.4m | 3.23bn | 23.8% |
Post-Q3 results (est.) | ~1.3bn | 4.53bn | 33.4% |
8 Dec (day 180) | 797.6m | 5.33bn | 39.3% |
By the end of 2026, close to 4.9 billion SpaceX shares are expected to be free to trade. That keeps a supply overhang in place even while the stock recovers.
The biggest single release is expected two trading days after SpaceX reports third-quarter results, likely in late October or early November. Up to 1.3 billion shares, about 28% of the relevant share pool, could unlock at that point.
Looking at the 4-hour chart, Fibonacci levels, and EMA structure, SpaceX stock price shows a gradual recovery pattern with higher highs and higher lows.
Price near $154.74 sits above the short-term EMAs. The 0.382 Fibonacci level at $150.98 is acting as nearby support.
Upside levels to watch:
$165.24 (0.5 Fib) - next resistance
$179.49 (0.618 Fib) - stronger breakout target
Downside levels to watch:
$150-151 - key support zone
$146-145 - EMA support if $150 breaks
$133.34 (0.236 Fib) - deeper support
If SPCX stock holds the $150-151 zone and breaks above $158-160, the setup could open a path toward $165.24, with $179.49 as a stretch target. A sustained close below $150 would weaken this outlook and put the $146-145 zone in focus.
This is a read of current chart structure, not a guarantee of where the stock will trade.
The float and the index weight need to be read together. Using prospectus tranche sizes, and assuming Nasdaq treats every released share as float, SpaceX's weight is set to keep climbing.
At the October float level, the standard 3x rule gives a weight near 4.8%. At full market value, that number rises to about 6.6%, roughly 2.3 times September's 2.82% weight.
There is a ceiling, though. Once float passes 33.3%, the 3x rule stops adding extra weight. On these numbers, that happens around the post-Q3 earnings tranche. The 797.6 million shares due on December 8 would then add no further index-driven buying.
From October 9 to December 8, about 3.08 billion shares are set to unlock, worth roughly $471 billion at current prices. Passive buying tied to the weight increase covers only 6% to 12% of that new supply. The rest depends on existing holders choosing not to sell.
SpaceX is targeting Starship Flight 14 for as early as September 28, pending regulatory approval, after previously eyeing September 22.
CFO Bret Johnsen has called this the first revenue-generating Starship mission. It is expected to carry and deploy 26 Starlink Version 3 satellites.
Pivotal Research analyst Jeffrey Wlodarczak has tied his $220 price target to Starship reaching 20 to 50 flights with low refurbishment costs and fast turnaround times. A smooth launch could support bullish sentiment around SpaceX stock price in the short term. A delay or setback could do the opposite.
SpaceX stock price sits at an interesting point. Index buying is providing real support, and Starship progress is giving bulls a story to hold onto.
At the same time, billions of dollars in newly unlocked shares are scheduled to hit the market between now and December. That supply has to be absorbed somewhere.
Traders watching SPCX stock price will likely keep an eye on the $150-151 support zone, the September 24 and October unlock dates, and the outcome of Starship Flight 14 as the next signals for direction.
