Ethereum News Today: Bridge Exploit, Quantum Upgrade and Staking

Ethereum news today starts with a security alert. Blockaid reported an ongoing attack on the zkLink Nova bridge, with about $786,000 drained at the time of its warning.

Other Ethereum news covers a new quantum-resistance proposal, the end of Diva Staking, and fresh funding for research. These stories matter to ETH holders, validators, and DeFi users. Will security or decentralization shape the next phase of the Ethereum network?

zkLink Nova Bridge Exploit: What Happened and How Much Was Lost?

Blockaid said attackers used a public relayer to inject a forged batch root on Ethereum. They then finalized ETH and ERC-20 withdrawals from zkLink Nova’s Layer 1 escrow to addresses they chose. Blockaid put the drain at roughly $786,000 and said the attack was still ongoing when it posted.

The final loss and the root cause are not yet confirmed. Readers should not assume the incident is over. Bridges move assets between blockchain environments, so a single weak check can expose locked funds. Users of zkLink Nova should follow official project updates and Blockaid’s alerts for new details.

EIP-8450 Explained: How Ethereum Plans for Quantum-Resistant Security

Developer Kevaundray Wedderburn submitted an updated EIP-8450 draft on October 28. It is the latest Ethereum update news on post-quantum security. The draft removes the withdrawal-address path and its execution layer contract. Instead, a validator’s existing BLS signing key would register and replace its post-quantum keys.

The draft also sets a minimum gap of 256 epochs between key changes. A replay protection field stops an old registration from being applied twice. It adds a hash-based verifiable random function tree root as well.

Is Ethereum quantum-resistant today? No. EIP-8450 is still a draft proposal and has not been activated on mainnet. It is not the latest Ethereum upgrade that users can run today. It is research that points toward a future one.

Diva Staking Shutdown Raises Questions About Ethereum Decentralization

Diva Staking announced it will wind down and will not launch on mainnet. The team said its funds ran out in mid-2024. Three members then kept building for almost two and a half years without pay.

Diva said its protocol ran on the Hoodi testnet for four months without a failure. Still, the team could not afford new audits or mainnet upkeep. It also said no large player offered help.

Diva argued that staking is concentrating among big firms. As of the end of June, it said BitMine held 11.5% of staked ETH, Coinbase 10.9% and Binance 7.9%. These figures come from Diva’s statement and were not independently verified here.

Ethlabs Funding and OG Wallet Movement: What ETH Holders Know?

Ethlabs Gains New Supporters for Ethereum Research

Ethlabs said Ethereum co-founder Mihai Alisie joined as an anchor funder. Payward, the parent company of Kraken, and Gattaca joined as contributors. Nineteen community members also signed on. Five former Ethereum Foundation researchers founded the group in June. It works on protocol research, infrastructure and adoption. BitMine, SharpLink and Joseph Lubin backed it earlier.

Ethereum OG Wallet Deposits 2,119 ETH Into Coinbase

Lookonchain reported that a wallet idle for three years sent all 2,119 ETH, about $4.99 million, to Coinbase. Exchange deposits can come before a sale. They do not prove one happened.

Any Ethereum news prediction should stay cautious. Bridge hacks, staking trends, research funding, and wallet moves can shift sentiment. None of them can fix the ETH price on its own. For live numbers, check an exchange or a market tracker for the current ETH price today.

Conclusion

This Ethereum news shows two sides of the Ethereum network. Long-term work on quantum safety and research funding continues. Short-term risks, like the zkLink Nova exploit and staking concentration, remain. Watch the bridge investigation, treat EIP-8450 as a proposal, and do not read one exchange deposit as proof of selling. Check back for the next Ethereum news update today.
