So What Exactly Are Stock Perpetuals in Simple Words on Binance?
Stock perpetuals are contracts that follow a company’s share price with no expiry date. A trader picks a direction, and the contract gains or loses as the price moves.
The idea comes from how perpetual contracts work in crypto; only the price now belongs to a listed company.
Binance TradFi perpetuals tied to shares went live on October 26, 2026, opening a new route for stock trading on Binance.
The catch is what a trader does not get: no share in the account, no vote at the company meeting, and no ownership. The contract only tracks a price.
The steps are short:
Pick long if the price may rise, or short if it may fall.
Post margin, the deposit that backs the position.
Gain or lose as the price moves, paid in USDT.
Pay or receive funding while the position stays open.
Traditional futures on regulated futures exchanges settle and close on a set date. A perpetual has no scheduled expiry, so a position stays open while margin lasts. Stock perpetuals are stock derivatives, so holding one gives no ownership or voting rights.
On October 26, 2026, Binance listed four TradFi perpetuals (TradFi means traditional finance): EIDOUSDT, EQTUSDT, STMUSDT, and ABBVUSDT.
This article covers the ABBVUSDT and EQTUSDT contracts, tied to AbbVie and EQT Corporation.
The figures below come from the official Binance listing announcement, which describes them as USDT-priced and USDT-settled.
Detail | EQTUSDT | ABBVUSDT |
Launch (UTC) | 09:05 | 09:15 |
Underlying | EQT Corporation common stock | AbbVie Inc. common stock |
Settlement asset | USDT | USDT |
Max leverage | 20x | 20x |
Funding | ±2% cap, every eight hours | ±2% cap, every eight hours |
Minimum trade size | 0.01 EQT | 0.01 ABBV |
Minimum order value | 5 USDT | 5 USDT |
Trading hours | 24/7 | 24/7 |
EQT Corporation is a US natural gas producer, and AbbVie is a pharmaceutical company.
Binance can change leverage, margin rules, and funding settings later, and it says the products may not be available in every region.
US shares don’t trade nonstop, but the contracts do, so these stock-linked perpetual contracts need their own pricing method. Three prices matter:
Index price: the reference price for the underlying share.
Mark price: the price Binance uses for unrealized profit, loss, and liquidation.
Contract price: where the perpetual itself trades. It can differ from both of the others, especially outside regular stock-market hours.
In regular hours, the index uses prices from data vendors. On weekends, holidays, and maintenance breaks, equity perpetual futures switch to an order-book mode built from the contract’s own trading and smoothed over time, effective May 16, 2026.
Under Binance’s TradFi pricing rules, the mark price must stay within 5% of the index on trading days and 3% on weekends and holidays, though Binance can update those limits.
Binance also moved the moving average in its mark price formula to a one-minute basis on August 31, 2026, per Binance’s mark price update. In plain words, a Saturday price comes from traders on the contract, not the share market, and it can sit away from Monday’s open.
Funding rates are payments between long and short traders. They help keep a perpetual contract’s price aligned with its reference index.
A traditional futures contract ends on a set date, but a perpetual never expires. You can hold it for as long as you want, as long as your margin stays safe.
Funding can encourage the two prices to meet, but it does not guarantee an exact match. A positive rate usually means long positions pay shorts.
Binance-lists a ±2% cap per settlement every eight hours. At that extreme, a 1,000 USDT position implies a 20 USDT payment, though real rates can be far lower. Small rates still add up over days, as these perpetual position costs show.
Binance also has a dividend-adjustment mechanism for equity perpetuals. Around the ex-dividend date, a one-time special funding settlement moves money from short holders to long holders to offset the price drop on the shares.
For US equities, it begins the calendar day before the ex-dividend date, and the usual funding cap does not apply, so the payment can exceed 2%. The exact treatment depends on Binance’s current rules.
Leverage lets you hold a position bigger than the margin you put up. Say you put in 1,000 USDT at 20x. You control 20,000 USDT, so a 5% move against you wipes out the whole margin before fees.
Liquidation, which is the forced closing of your position, can happen even sooner because of maintenance margin and platform rules.
Binance-says a sharp move against you can wipe out your full margin balance. Leveraged stock trades give you very little room to slip, as these leverage trading risks make clear.
Cross margin can put more of your balance behind a single position, while isolated margin caps the margin assigned to that one position. This comparison of cross versus isolated margin explains the difference.
Feature | Stock perpetual | Regular shares | Tokenized equity |
Owner's IP | None | Shareholder rights | Depends on terms |
Hours | 24/7 here | Exchange sessions | Varies |
Leverage | Up to 20x | Not built in | Varies |
Main risk | Liquidation | Market price | Issuer and custody |
Tokenized equity rights depend on the issuer’s legal and custody setup, as a look at tokenized equity products shows.
Stock perpetual risks start with leverage. Lower leverage does not remove liquidation risk, since position size, maintenance margin, fees, price gaps, and platform rules all affect losses.
Most traders lose positions to the same few errors, and these ways to avoid liquidation show how to steer clear of them.
Platforms also calculate it differently, as this note on how liquidation risk differs by exchange shows.
Binance has confirmed the launch times, the underlying shares, USDT pricing and settlement, leverage, funding, and trading hours.
We did not look into early trading volume, spreads, or order book depth for Binance-stock perpetuals as of October 29, 2026, so you won’t find those numbers here.
Thin liquidity and how closely the price follows the stock near the market open are still the main unknowns.
With these new contracts, you can trade the price of AbbVie and EQT on Binance-without buying the actual shares. The pairs are ABBVUSDT and EQTUSDT. They trade round the clock, and everything is settled in USDT. Leverage goes up to 20x.
Two things need your attention. The first is pricing when the stock market is closed. The contract keeps moving even when the real stock doesn’t, and many traders miss this.
The second is leverage. At 20x, a small move against you can wipe out your position very fast. So before you open any trade, check the live contract specs, the funding rate, and your liquidation price.
